Manic Monday ~ The Pie Chart Test (PART 1)

There was a "pie" test I would have our personal training department administer. No, it's not a pie eating kind of test, although I bet I could figure out eating habits if I watched one. But this pie test involved a chart which paired questions with the pie chart allowing a visual for us to go by regarding the client's current lifestyle. If the pie chart was completely filled in 100%, the client was in an excellent status of making healthy choices (we never saw 100% in a beginner client). Most beginner clients scored 50%. And we had plenty who scored lower... more times then over 50%.

The goal for our beginner clients was to work up to a pie chart that was 80-90% "filled in." We encouraged realistic results knowing we can always advance goals if need be.

I still use this test to this day. I believe it offers simplicity but points out the major building blocks to have for a healthy lifestyle that will yield great results.

Do you want to fill out YOUR pie chart?

Here it is:

Answer the following questions and color in the portion of the pie chart if you answered "YES."

  1. Do you drink 64 or more ounces of water per day?

  2. Do you take a nutritional rich supplement or multi-vitamin daily?

  3. Do you eat 5-6 times a day, alternating meals with balanced snacks every 2-3 hours?

  4. Do you consume an average of 10-20grams of protein along with a complex clean carbohydrate at each meal/snack?

  5. Do you perform 45-60 minutes of (moderate to high HR) cardiovascular activity 4-5+ days per week?

  6. Do you perform resistance or strength activities that condition the each part of the body 2 times per week?

Tune into next week for for PART 2 explaining the chart and what it means for you!

Have a GREAT week!
